A few days ago, Brad Schlossman confirmed that UND goalie Cam Johnson would be returning to UND for his junior season. The Michigan-born goalie had a fantastic year, including setting a consecutive minutes scoreless record for UND. Johnson’s total was second all time, and only ended on a fluky goal against Alabama Huntsville. Johnson is a big goalie that plays fairly aggressive. He likes to come out to the top of the crease and cut down the angle for a lot of his opponents. Johnson’s return gives UND superb goal tending depth headed into next year. Johnson will be the starter next season. UND has senior goalie Matt Hrynkiw as its backup. Matt played outstanding in Johnson’s absence only losing once. Later in the season, Humboldt Bronco alum steadied UND against Colorado College where they had to battle for a tie and a shootout win.The future in net for UND looks bright as highly touted Slovak goalie Matej Tomek will have another year under his belt and a chance to compete for the backup job. The Fighting Hawks just got stronger in the net for next season and years to come thanks to Johnson’s descision.
