Caggiula Heads to Edmonton

Yesterday, senior leader and Frozen Four Most Outstanding player Drake Caggiula signed a two year deal with the Edmonton Oilers. The undrafted free agent out of Pickering,Ontario, had a sensational year for the Fighting Hawks this season. Caggiula had 51 points in 39 games. The Ontario native is an outstanding two-way forward with a strong shot and great play making. The senior forward was an anchor for the vaunted CBS line that lead UND to its eighth national championship this season.

In the Oilers system, Caggiula will be given a chance to compete for a  bottom six role this fall. Drake will most likely start his pro career in the AHL playing alongside UND alum and former captain Dillon Simpson. Look for Drake to get top six time with the AHL Condors, and have a chance to earn a call up to the big club next season. No matter what happens, it is clear that Caggiula’s grit and determination will help him get far in the NHL.Drake was overlooked during both of his NHL Draft eligible years by all 30 teams 422 times.

One thing is clear though, Caggiula will prove more people wrong with his play at the next level. Look for Drake to compete at the next level within two years.
