For the Northeast Generals, they have a defense group built on two-way players that are physical in their own end, and responsible. One of the leaders of that group is Swedish defender Douglas Friberg. He is in his first year of North American Junior Hockey and has improved game over game. You will not find all of why Friberg is a Division One defender with growing interest, instead you have to watch him play and see how he makes the simple play, and does well to be responsible.
As Head coach Bryan Erikson said of Friberg “Douglas has improved a lot. He has made progress in his play away from the puck. He also has started to move the puck quicker. He can sling the puck back there and it’s great when he moves it fast. His feet were (and still are) a point of emphasis but he is getting quicker and more explosive with his stride. Still has work to do but we are very happy with his play. Needs to continue to add consistency to his play but he is trending in the correct direction.”
His play is improving, and Friberg is growing more accustomed to the North American game more and more each day. Look for his stat sheet to get more parallel with his growing familiarity with the game, as he is one of the key determininats with his back end work for how far this Generals team will go.
