Northeast Generals: Week in review

This week, the Northeast Generals organization had three more close games. At the end of them , the NAHL team saw that they have more work to get back in the playoff hunt. The NA3HL group came dangerously close to losing its first game of the year, only winning in a shootout.

Head coach Bryan Erikson had the following to say about his group’s weekend.

“It’s frustrating. We played real well in parts but just not enough mental toughness to put together 60 full minutes of good hockey. But hopefully it will be a good learning experience. We are now 20 games in and our record isn’t where we want it to be. But we are in s decent enough place to make a run.

Tough stretch the past two weeks with 2 short practice weeks and 9 hour bus trips both ways. So to come out 2-2 isn’t the end of the world. But we have 4 games in 6 days coming up and it would be nice to string some wins together heading into thanksgiving.”

NA3HL

While this group had one game postponed, they still pulled together to stay undefeated against the Long Beach Sharks today, winning 3-2 in a shootout. As Erikson said of opportunities for this group to grow “Very sloppy and sluggish start. They wanted it more and it showed. Made too many mental mistakes and didn’t capitalize on our chances. They came with a good game plan and out played us for large parts of the game. But the win is what matters and D’Mar was electric in the OT and the shootout. Any Tyler Ramm made a great move and buried the Shoot out winner”

Coach Daryl Locke added “

“Unfortunately, Long Beach ran into some bus issues before traveling to Attleboro. Nothing either team could do as those things happen some times during the course of a season. Both teams were looking forward to the 2 game matchup. We had two good games against each other in Long Beach.
Today’s game was another sluggish start for us. D’Mar McCoy made some saves look routine but in fact were grade A chances for Long Beach. He really boosted us in the first 5 minutes with his play. We were able to regroup a bit and got a good bounce for a Payton Felix goal. Again we reverted back to a passive game and Long Beach came right back and tied it. A pretty close game the next two periods as both teams made pushes to extend the the lead trading goals to end the game in regulation 2-2. Overtime was more of a feeling out process for both teams. D’Mar made his best save with less than a minute to go. Somehow stoning a Long Beach forward with an incredible glove save on a 2 on 1 down low. The shoot out was more of The D’Mar Show. His calm, cool, demeanor in the net was impressive to watch. He stopped all five shooters. Tyler Ramm was a physical force all night for us tonight. He was playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder tonight and had Long Beach looking over their shoulder when he was out there. Happy for him he sniped the shootout winner. He definitely deserved the result with his physical play tonight. Lots to work on this week as we get ready to travel to New Jersey Titans for two games next Saturday/Sunday.”
