Northeast Generals Week in Review

This week just the NA3HL team was in action. The group faced teams around the county in the NA3HL Showcase in Blaine. This week served as a heat check for this group and they went 1-2. Head Coach Daryl Locke talked about each game. If this team makes some changes they could see one of the these teams in the Fraser Cup later on in 20222. The NAHL side was idle.

Game one

The Rochester Grizzlies are a good team. There’s a reason why they’re ranked number 1 in all of Tier 3 Junior Hockey. They’re well coached and well disciplined. We knew coming into the game we had to limit our mistakes and capitalize on theirs. I thought D’Mar McCoy kept us on an even keel during the first five minutes as we were adjusting to the pace of the game. Tyler Ramm had a nice goal and was a presence around the net all night. His line with Caiden Hess and our Captain Nick Wracker were fast and physical all night. I was happy for Cody Lambert scoring a goal tonight. He’s played defense for us the last two games because of injuries and was back with his line mates contributing in a big way. What can I say about Braeden Kennedy other than the kid is nails. He’s tough, competes all over the ice, and never gives up on a play. He was coming to the bench for a change when Matt Nuzzolilo shot the puck around the boards. He caught up to it slowed down and made a couple of moves and the puck slid through the goalies legs. What an exciting game. The streak lives on for another day.

Game two

“I knew today’s game was going to be a tight checking affair. Both teams are pretty similar in their approach. I thought they had a little more jump in their game than we did in the first ten minutes of the game. Mason Joseph kept us in the game with some nice saves in the first period. Unfortunately, his nagging lower body injury took him out of the game in the second period. D’Mar had to step in cold and did a good job. Penalties played a major role in the game as we lost our focus and gave them a couple five on three situations. When your constantly on the penalty kill you start chasing the game. I have to do a better job of keeping the boys focused on the game. What I liked about the game for us as a team is our compete level. The boys never gave up at any point. Being the youngest team in the NA3HL it would’ve been easy for them to dial it down a notch. The boys did the exact opposite and for that I’m most proud of them. We’ll be back at it tomorrow and hopefully start a new streak.”

Game three recap

“I’m disappointed at our effort to say the least. Playing on the big stage against the best teams in the league you need to bring your best every shift of every game. We certainly didn’t do that. We waited until the last eight minutes of the game before we woke up and by that time the game was pretty much over. From an organization standpoint we’ll be making some additions and subtractions from the roster after the break. This week was a good test for us. This showcase opened our eyes as far as player personnel and what we have to do as an organization to make a deep run in the playoffs. Changes are coming…..”
