Northeast Generals: Week in Review

This week, the NAHL Generals were the ones in action. They lost three of four points against the Johnstown Tomahawks. With that said, Head Coach Bryan Erikson was proud of how his team responded in the series finale, and all points are at a premium for the team as they jockey for the playoffs.

Erikson had the following to say on his team’s two games.

“ I thought we played very well for most of the game on Friday. An unfortunate goal at the end of the second hurt us. Thought there was very obvious goaltender interference. But either way we had a tie game going into the 3rd. Then late in the game we got hit with 2 very marginal penalty calls for a 5-3 with less than 3 minutes left. And they are a good team so they capitalized. We didn’t on our opportunities and that was the difference.”

On Saturday he blamed himself, saying

“Saturday I thought we had a great 1st period. One of the best of the season. The second wasn’t bad at all but the 3rd we got away from our game plan. The 3rd goal by then didn’t go in which stinks. Hate to have the officials in that situation where they don’t have as good a view as we did but it clearly never went in. But once again it was a tie game and we could control our own destiny. We played a very lazy OT. Got a PP and made some mental mistakes that I didn’t like. And then you go to a shootout and it’s anyones game. But on Saturday’s game I really hated my coaching. I coached emotionally rather than intelligently. So that loss is on me. I need to be better. These games are too important and the boys work too hard for me not to have my A game every single game. I’ll be better going forward as will the boys.”

Despite this the team still has had a marked improvement from last year and is in playoff contention.
