For the Northeast Generals, it was a good weekend. The NAHL team got four key points against the first place New Jersey Titans. The NA3HL team secured a playoff spot as they look to make it back to, and improve upon their Fraser Cup performance.

For the NA3HL group, Head Coach Daryl Locke had the following to say about his team’s two wins earning the spot to battle for a trip to the Fraser cup once more.

He said “ Saturday’s game was a bit of a mix bag for us. We came out and got on the board first with a Braeden Kennedy goal. We were real sloppy in our dzone coverage later in the period and it cost us. Two Long Beach goals in less than two minutes put us down going into the second period. We were able to regroup and come out and tie it in the second period. Nolan Murphy with a big time goal equaled the score. After a scoreless third period and overtime we went into the shootout pretty confident. We have a bunch of highly skilled forwards up and down the lineup who can score with incredible moves. D’Mar McCoy, in my opinion, is one of the best goalies in the league for shootouts. He’s so calm that he doesn’t give the shooters an opening to make a play. Matt Nuzzolilo again led us off with a goal in the shootout. After a miss and two saves by D’Mar, Caiden Hess won it for us with a nice five hole goal. Caiden had been shooting the puck and finding the net all week in practice. I could feel he had that touch where everything was going in for him. He’s been heating up lately and happy for him he’s getting those opportunities to finish. A good gut check win for the boys.
Sunday’s game was fast and physical. The boys established the forecheck and were able to get pucks behind their defense and create scoring opportunities. Tyler Ramm was a physical force again for us. He had two goals and was relentless in all three zones with his play. Sammy Lamphear with a nice goal on a great pass from Viktor Solokhin. Caiden Hess continued his hot hand with another goal. Matt Nuzzolilo with a highlight reel shorthanded goal. Mason Joseph made some timely saves and led us to victory. Overall, a successful weekend as the four points put some distance between the two teams.”

On the mentality for the team the rest of the regular season he said “ Our approach going forward will remain the same as day 1 of training camp. We want an opportunity to win The Fraser Cup. The way you achieve that is by playing the game all out. We will not sit players or cut players ice time to rest them for the playoffs. We’ve dealt with call ups and season ending injuries all season. This group has persevered with the next man up mentality all year long. Super proud of this group and the way they go about their business on a daily basis. Having an opportunity to coach these players day in and day out has been a privilege.”

The group lead by Head Coach Bryan Erikson got four points against the first place New Jersey Titans. These points help the Generals in their playoff hunt.

As Erikson said “ I love the way the guys battled this weekend. Friday I thought we came out a bit overhyped for the game and got away from our systems and structure a bit. And we fell behind 2-0. But we did a great job getting back to what works and climbing back into the game. The Power Play was very good as was the Penalty Kill. Then to score the equalizer late on the Cooper goal was huge. And Ryan Gordon took over in OT and made a great play for the GWG. Real proud of how they played on Friday vs. a great team.Then on Saturday I thought New Jersey really took it to us. They controlled play for the first 12 minutes but we weathered the storm well. Filled lanes, protected the house and did a good job when we were on our heals. And once we settled in I thought we did a good job. Some timely scoring. David Tolan with a great goal, Ryan Corcoran with a great goal. Real pretty plays that came from within the structure we wanted to play with. We just got a ton of solid contributions from everyone in the lineup. Evan Orr and Jackson McCarthy were huge on the backend. Each played over 30 minutes which is a huge ask but they were up to the challenge. And Cullen stole that game for us in net. He was awesome. A great game and a great job of staying under control during a barrage of offensive zone play by New Jersey. Real proud of our guys. But we need to build on it going forward. Need to start stringing some wins together.”
