This week, the NAHL group got two points helping them in their quest to make the playoffs in the competitive East Division with a split against a solid Maryland team. The NA3HL group won all of their games and clinched the East division.
NAHL
Bryan Erikson, the NAHL head coach had this to say about the week his team had.
“ I thought we had a really good 2 games. We played hard both games. Did a good job playing with structure and although we wanted to win both we will take the sweep. Not having Andreychuk, Keefer, Cooper, Ardagna and Kaminski left some big holes in our lineup. Really proud of the guys for stepping up and playing hard and very well. Thursday’s game we started out awesome. Our forecheck was great and DeYoung was outstanding in net. Friday we played real well. Had a few minutes were we got away from things and they capitalized on that for the lead but we kept battling. Their goalie played outstanding! For us Ryan Gordon was awesome both games and he led the way. DeYoung was very good in net both games. Now we have a chance to get healthy this week with 1 game on Sunday. Looking forward to getting a few of those guys back. Will be great when we can play a game with our full team again! But having said that it is why we love having an NA3 and Midget program in our building as Tyler Ramm played in NJ and did a great job and newly tendered D man Jack DeMoura came up and filled in doing a great job. We got a to play 2 important games while giving some different guys a lot of ice time. That bodes well for our future.”
NA3HL
Head Coach Daryl Locke had a lot to say about another perfect week that his team put together.
“I thought in Wednesday’s game we executed our game plan and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. We took our foot of the gas a bit in the second period and allowed Baystate to score two goals. Going into the third period I wanted the group to stay the course and keep playing our game. I could feel we were a bit overconfident that we had the game won, which became a reality, when they tied the game at three. Baystate proceeded to take a five minute major penalty and we capitalized on it. The boys scored three goals on the power play to secure the win. Mason Joseph got the win in net. Nick Wracker our Captain led the way with two goals.
Friday’s game we established our forecheck and pushed the pace. The boys jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period and never looked back. Ayden Frolik had a great game with a goal and three assists. Mason Joseph was solid again in the net with the 8-0 shutout.
Saturday’s game on the road against Danbury was a feeling out process as both team’s skated to 0-0 tie after one period. We were able to jump on them in the second period and grab a 2-0 lead. Goals by Nolan Zotter and Payton Felix had us in a good spot. Danbury was able to capitalize on our sloppy play and line changes to tie the game at the end of the second period. Going into the third period I had a spirited conversation with the team in the locker room. I told them we need to get back to playing Gens hockey. Fast, physical, and overwhelming opponents. The message was received as they came out flying. Nolan Murphy scored a nice backhand goal at the :40 second mark. Nolan Zotter banged one home at the 1:14 mark and Caiden Hess finished the scoring with a nice goal at the 1:53 mark. Three goals in 1:53 was quite impressive. What makes this win so satisfying is we have numerous key players out with long term or season ending injuries. The boys keep finding ways to win games. As a coach, you have to tip your hat to the resilience of this group.”
