A busy week ended well for the NAHL team, and NA3HL team. The NAHL group got closer to locking up a playoff spot, while the NA3HL group made history today . Read more below.
NAHL
Head Coach Bryan Erickson said , “ Just real proud of the boys. 4 must win games and we got the 8 points. We battled hard all week and it showed as when we fell behind we never got down. We just fought back harder. Big time guys stepped up and made big plays. Cullen was great in net and Drum was great as well. A full team effort and a huge 8 points. But we have 2 more huge games next weekend and we need to keep it rolling. Cullen has been amazing. He is good for a few huge saves a game and has been a big part of us winning. And having everyone back has been huge. We now have a ton of depth both up front and on the back end. It’s a lot easier to coach when you look down the bench and just see player after player that understands our structure and is in full buy in mode.”
NA3HL
Head Coach Darryl Locke said “ I thought Tuesday’s game at Norwich we executed our game plan from the start of the game. Pressuring their defense and being physical created turnovers and we were able to capitalize on those mistakes. Braeden Kennedy’s line with Matt Nuzzolilo and Nolan Murphy were dominant in all area’s of the game. Those guys set the pace and led us to a 6-2 win. D’Mar McCoy was solid once again in net.Wednesday’s game at Baystate was another hard fought game. We came in with the same game plan as Tuesday. Being physical and forcing the play in the offensive zone created chances for us. Braeden Kennedy’s line again had it going. Nolan Murphy had two goals. Cedric Savoie had a goal along with Caiden Hess and Payton Felix. Mason Joseph with the win in net.Going into Friday’s game we knew it was going to be a nip and tuck game. Danbury always plays us tough as they match up well against us. Braeden Kennedy got us going in the first period with a snipe over the goalies shoulder. Owen Locke scored a power play goal to give us a lead in the second period. Michael Locke scored shortly thereafter to give us a two goal lead. Both goals for The Locke brothers came in their first junior hockey game. Both were added to the twenty five man roster at the deadline. Their prep season ended five days ago where they won a prep school championship for Worcester Academy Prep School. Luke Fundator was solid again in net shutting the door in the third period to secure the win.As Sunday’s game rolled around, we knew Mason City had won against Granite City, opening the door for us to finish first overall in the league. The boys would not be denied as we jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Tyler Ramm scored two goals and Nolan Murphy had a goal. Matt Nuzzolilo scored a short handed goal tying a league record for short handed goals in a season. Sean Gorman broke the record shortly thereafter with the 25th short handed goal for the season. Super proud of the special teams as they’ve been working hard to break the record. D’Mar McCoy with the shutout in net was the perfect ending to the regular season. I’m happy for everyone in The Generals Organization as we’ve come close to finishing first overall two season ago but fell short. The hockey Gods were definitely on our side the last week or so. Super happy for the owners Bob, Bryan, and Rich who believed in us and never wavered in their support. It makes it easy for us knowing they have our backs. We’re not finished yet as we need to carry this energy into the first round of the playoffs. We’ll enjoy the moment tonight but get back to work and prepare for Baystate tomorrow.”
