Northeast Generals Fraser Cup Recap: A Game One Win

Tonight, the NA3HL Northeast Generals started pool play in the Fraser Cup the right way. They played a tough Rochester Grizzlies team and overwhelmed them with how they played to earn a 5-2 game one victory. These two points go a long way towards helping them clinch a semifinal spot.

Head Coach Darryl Locke was proud of his team and took us through the game.

He said, “ I think the last two days we really focused on being prepared for any scenario that might come up in the course of the game. We had meetings and went over film to clear up any holes we previously had in our game. Having a team as young as we do the main goal is communication. We have a few returners from last season’s Fraser Cup run so they’ve been talking to the younger guys keeping them focused. I thought we established what we wanted to do in terms of using our speed and being physical. We were able to capitalize on the penalty kill as Sean Gorman had a nice goal and really lifted the bench. I think from there our energy went up and we were able to push the pace. Braeden Kennedy scored a nice goal and then off a broken play breakout Nolan Murphy was able to get a shot off with two seconds left that somehow found its way in the back of the net. The second and third period was The D’Mar Show. He was calm, poised, and in control. His demeanor is so steady it helps our defensemen stay calm under pressure. We have total confidence in him in any situation. A good start but we have a long way to go.”
