Head Coach Jacob Smulevitch of the Columbia Infantry has a lot to be proud of. His elite group earned the first win ever for the organization over the Florida Junior Blades by a 4-1 score. The Premier group has some more things to work on as the Junior Blades gave them a 5-1 loss. Hear the coach’s thoughts below. Both teams can earn two more points a piece tomorrow.
“I thought the elite team really came to play today. They did all of the little details right and had a ton of energy. The message to them after the win now was that we have to do it consistently and there’s no going backwards now. I think the standouts for me were defenseman Eli White who dominates possession and creates offensively, goaltender Danny Van Brunt who was calm as can be in his first junior game, and forward Quinton Hernandez who scored two goals.
Premier I think that our effort and execution of little things was terrible today. Tomorrow we need to focus on doing the little things right and tons of energy. And I think that the standouts for me today were goalie Parker Dietz who despite getting pulled midway was solid overall and defenseman Zach Brady who really continues to evolve into a top end D.”
