Columbia Infantry Week In Review: A week of progress-read more

For the Columbia Infantry, they had an off week at an opportune time. They had started to show what they could do at the South Showcase and had an off week after that.

Head Coach Jacob Smulevitch had the following to say on the biggest week for his program so far. The team finished 3-1 and had some standouts as well. They look to continue this momentum at home next weekend. Over time, the Infantry have been drawing the attention of college scouts as more players are getting noticed as the year has worn on.

“I’m very happy with our weekend in Tampa. This was a huge building block for us. Tampa is often considered a contender at both levels and we came in and went 3-1 as an organization.

We used the off weekend to work on a lot of offensive zone system play, the power play, and the little details we felt had cost us games over the first several weekends. I think that it gave us time to really work on what we needed to improve on. We did a ton of video and preparation for these games.

Thomas Filaramo is a kid who I think is coming into his own. He’s an elite player who continues to produce. I think he is doing a lot of maturing this season as I don’t believe he’s ever been held accountable before and I thought continued that process this week.

I’m just very very proud of both teams. They found ways to win this weekend and this was 4 huge points for our premier team to extend their winning streak to 3 games.

We are very excited to come back to home ice with this momentum.”
