Director of Player Development Trevor Jewell gave some great insight on what the Rush and Wilkes Universiy have in common, mainly alums helping Wilkes. He also talked about the relationship the Rush have with that team.
“We are extremely proud of our relationship with Wilkes University. We currently have 7 alumni on that roster. All of them having different impacts along the way. Players like Jimmy O’Kane & Johnny Barrett both guys that spent their junior career with us in Charlotte. They were players who helped establish the culture & success we have today. They trusted the process and because extremely strong leaders and even better people. They saw a ton of success while in Charlotte and now seeing that success at Wilkes. Other players like Nick Godfrey & Billy Berry we great people and help guide us offensively during the time they spent here. They were dynamic players and extremely fun to watch. Off the ice they were great in the community, they bought in and did all the little things to be successful. Luke Dobles, a player who won a national Championship with us and was also a captain. His impact was great on and off the ice. He developed a ton while in Charlotte and is seeing it pay off after a great freshman campaign. He was a leader and came to work every day ready to go and always pushed his teammates to be better. Michael Paterson-Jones & Luc Fox were teammates while in Charlotte and are now sharing the crease at Wilkes. PJ was a competitor that demanded the best of his teammates & himself every day. He carried himself like a true professional and was very good with our youth goalies and in the community. Foxy was a tireless worker that never gave up on a single play. He was constantly working with the youth and giving back to the local community.
These guys helped create what the Charlotte Rush Organization has become. They set the standard on the ice and in the community. Without players like these and the success they had when buying into what we want to do, we wouldn’t be where we are now as a program. They are vital pieces of how the Charlotte Rush have grown.
Our relationships with coaches at the NCAA are extremely important to us. They are the next step for Al the majority of these players and we want to make sure they are growing in and off the ice so that when these coaches begin the process of recruiting them, it is a seemless process. Building and keeping relationships with these coaches is paramount, we want them to keep coming back for players knowing that they are going to get a great student athlete as well as a great human being to reap resent their school and program.”
