An exciting addition for the Cyclones: Brendan Boring

For the NCDC Northern Cyclones, they got a player with a lot of interest. He is an exciting player that does not play like his last name. Forward Brendan Boring is heading to Hudson to help the Cyclones get back to the pinnacle of NCDC Hockey.

Hear from him on his background, which included some time at Bishop Kearney as well.

“ I spent 2 years playing for the BK program and was there from the very beginning of the program. I had 2 of the best coaches in the game. My first year was 15u with Chris Collins as our coach. For a first year program we did really well finishing in the top 15 in the country. My 16u year we won the National Championship with Dan Collins as our coach. Those 2 years really helped me develop not only on the ice but also off the ice. It taught me how how hard it is to win a National and to never give up, just keep playing hard no matter what the odds are. After 2 years at BK I went to the Gulls. I felt I needed a change and being from Long Island it gave me a chance to be back home and train under another 2 great coaches in Mark Lotito and Vinny Smith. We made it to the quarter finals but lost a close game. The year with the Gulls I broke my hand and was out for 2 months. That was the first time I had ever sustained an injury and it was very hard and frustrating not to be in the ice helping my teammates. I think with the Gulls they helped me with my “skill” as they are very good at teaching that.”

In addition to his background, Boring has a lot of people to look up to him including a recent college graduate who has been on the path Boring wants to travel.

“My brother Matthew has been a great inspiration to me and has helped along the way. He always tells me the truth on how I played and helps me work on things that he sees needs improvements. My brother is a personal trainer now and in the offseason he puts me thru off training geared for hockey. He’s also always there when so need someone to talk to. My cousin Eric Middendorf has inspired me as he was on the NTDP, the Steel, Michigan State and now he’s in the ECHL playing for Adirondack. He’s an inspiring story because he wasn’t drafted to the NHL but just signed his first pro contract.”

Boring is coming to the Cyclones to develop and play NCDC Hockey because “The reason I love the Cyclones is basically how Tony Dalessio reached out to me and told me how much he loved my game. He drafted me 2 years ago when he was the GM of NH Monarchs, so basically he believed in me back then and that’s something I value. I went up to NH and did a tour and was really impressed with their facilities especially their new athletic facility. I also heard great things about the Head Coach and the team had a really impressive record last year. I also like that they’re close to numerous colleges.”

One thing that stands out about Boring is his pass first nature in the game. He does have a good shot he wants to develop with the Cyclones and acknowledged this and more. “This season I would really like to improve my off puck movement as I think that’s so important in getting scoring chances. I’ve been told by coaches that they would like me to shoot more as Ive always been more of a pass first playmaker. I think that at the higher levels of Juniors, you really need to see the ice and anticipate plays so that is another thing I want to improve. But in the end I want to contribute to the team any way I can whether that’s scoring, making plays or playing a hard physical game. I know going to Juniors is a big jump not only in competition but in terms of physicality, size age etc… So I want to come into the season prepared mentally and physically.”

Boring should be ready to go when camp starts soon for the Cyclones. Be on the lookout for a player coached by Martin St. Louis ( Boring) to try and develop away from the puck, grow his game and showcase his skills academically and on the ice to college teams this year in Hudson.
