Charlotte Rush Week in Review: An opening at the standard

Trevor Jewell has seen the Rush at their best for the years he has been with this program. The Coach knows what the standard looks like , and the Rush opened with that level. Veterans lead the way and new players made their mark. The team takes on Atlanta next and looks to build on a 4-0 opening weekend.

Premier

“This weekend was a great opening for us. We got a chance to get in some games and see where we are in terms of our details, systems and overall play. I thought we played fairly well, lots of new players that needed to start building some chemistry together. Understanding our system and how we want to play is not an easy task for the guys coming in from other programs. After watching our first two games and diving into video, we as a staff are extremely excited about what we saw this weekend. There were flashes of how good we can be, now we just need to fine tune that into becoming the every day standard. Lots of teaching and video to be done this week in prep for Atlanta next weekend.

There were a few guys that set the standard early. I thought Max Kontir was a huge part of our success this weekend. He has an engine that never stops. Skates like the wind and gets to the hard areas. Definitely a guy that helped carry the torch this weekend. We were also impressed with Premier newcomer Yianni Tsatsoulis. He was was a guy that impressed throughout camp and earned his spot with the Premier group. Got his first goal in his first game. The puck just always seems to find him and it’s because he never stops working. He has some offensive flare and he really coming into his own. Very proud of him after a season with Elite.

Defensively, I thought Carson Beattie had a great weekend. He drives the back end and continuously creates opportunities. Plays hard and manages the defensive side of the game very well. James Sigmon was also impressive in his debut. He skates so well that the game just comes easy to him. Once he gets a bit more comfortable I think there’s something special there.

Unsung heroes this weekend had to Matty Hamacher & Jared Weisert.

Matty just plays the game so hard. Never stops. Always in on the action. Every time he’s on the ice, he makes something happen. Jared, it’s simple, he just makes plays. He had countless set ups this weekend and always has the puck on his stick. Very impressed with those two and they definitely helped carry us this weekend.”
