Program director Jeff Holdenrid takes us through week six for CPH Hockey.
“Week 6 turned out to be an exciting weekend for CPH, 10UAA traveled to Charleston and pulled off the sweep playing both on Saturday and Sunday. 12UAA overworked the score board posting 20 goals in two games at home, and the 14UA also got the sweep also playing at home. Lets see what the coaches had to say on the weekend.
12UAA
CPH 12uAA filled the net on home ice this weekend winning by scores of 9-3 and 11-3. Most impressive, and a reflection of this group’s teamwork, was the display of balanced scoring. Every skater recorded a point this weekend. In each game CPH had 11 skaters recording at least 1 point, 7 different goal scorers, and 8 different players recording an assist! Each game also had one player record a hat trick (G1-Max Masek, G2-Carter Dorley). Next up for the 12uAA group is the much anticipated Notre Dame tournament Nov 10-12th.
14UA
CPH 14uA came out of the gate strong in their home opener this past Saturday against the NC Golden Bears. They controlled the first 2 periods of play and went on to a 6-1 victory. The rematch on Sunday morning was a tighter game. The Golden Bears played a strong second period and kept it close, but CPH pulled away in the 3rd to cruise to a 5-2 win. The 14uA team hopes to carry that momentum to South Carolina next weekend when they face the Greenville Road Warriors.
14UAA
This team played at home against a not so far neighbor and the Columbia Cyclones. A strong defensive play in the first period from both teams left the first period scoreless. Both teams broke through and scored in the second period making it a 1-1 game going into the third, but it was Columbia that found the back of the net in the third to take the win 2-1 on Saturday. Sunday these two would meet again and this game started out the same as Saturday, a slow start. CPH ended the first period with a 1-0 lead. In the second period both teams would light the lamp twice ending the period CPH 3-2 lead. It was the third period that CPH went for gold netting a massive 5 goals and not looking back, the final on the game was 8-2 and the teams would split. Can’t wait to see what happens when we rematch next weekend in Columbia.
10UA
CPH 10 UA took on QCR 10 UA at Extreme Ice this weekend. The team opened the game skating hard. Cooper Olson started his second game in goal and stood strong, while Oliver Klosek earned the hard hat with his 4th goal of the season.
16UAA
Back at home after a tournament in Charleston where we really improved, we played the 15U Canes. First game had a great start. First period ended 0-0. We fell off our game in the second and third being undisciplined and ended up losing 3-0. Game two we had our moments but unfortunately the same discipline as Saturday’s game had the canes score 3 PP goals in a 5-2 loss in game 2. Not the weekend we were looking to have as a group, we will have to regroup this next week with the weekend off and get ready for our next two in Raleigh.
10UAA and 12UAAA both play at home Sunday morning at Pineville Ice House
12UA, 14UA, 14UAA are all on the road”
