Recently, the Rush had a series against one of their fiercest rivals, the Richmond Generals. One of those players, Matt Hamacher lined up for the first time against his former team. He was persuaded to join the Rush over the summer and hasn’t looked back. The Rush have a history of elevating the futures of the veterans they trade for or add before or during their last season or two of junior hockey and it’s paying off again with Hamacher. The former thorn in the side of the Rush is now one of their leaders on the Premier team and is ready to help this team continue on its quest to another ring. He talked to us after playing the Generals for the first time.
Hamacher said “ it was fun playing against my old team but at the end of the day it was just another game for us. it was good to get both wins and i’m glad my boys were able to help get me a goal. the best part about our group is that we’re a full package, each and every guy brings something to the ice that’s beneficial to the team whether it’s offensive or defensive or getting the boys going we all bring something to the table to help us win games.”
Hamacher added “we came short of a title last season and i wanted another shot at it and the charlotte rush consistently win games and also championships so that was a big part of me coming here as well as the amount of commitments they get each year it really pulled me in. the biggest thing i’ve gained from being here is being more of a team player on and off the ice. the culture is really important here and it’s helped me embrace the “we before me” mentality and when the whole team plays for each other, we do great things.”
Hamacher and the Rush are getting ready to take on the Carolina Junior Hurricanes outdoors at Truist Field this Saturday.
