CPH:Another week of family, fun, and winning-Read more

Hear from program director Jeff Holdenrid on the great week that CPH had including some championships to discuss.

“It has always been the goal of CPH to send as many teams to events together. Hockey is a wonderful freedom we get to enjoy, and what better way to spend Veterans weekend than celebrating that freedom with three of our AA teams traveling to South Bend Indiana, Notre Dame. We were lucky enough to have all our teams stay in the same hotel, everyone got to go see Notre Dame win against Ohio State, and best of all 2 out of 3 came home champions and enjoyed a tour of the facilities. All this going on and 15UAAA played in Raleigh and got a private tour of some of the ARMY’s aircraft.

10UAA

10UAA played as a team this weekend and ended up going 4-0 in round robin play to advance to the championship game on Sunday. The team played great team defense in front of both goalies all weekend and didn’t stop there as they won their championship game 6-2 with contributions from different players and came home with the hardware.

The focus shifts back to CHL games next weekend with a trip to Raleigh to face the Canes.

12UAA

CPH 12uAA hit the road last weekend for the highly anticipated Irish South Bend Cup on the hallowed grounds of the University of Notre Dame. CPH jumped out to a great start with a 5-0 victory over Fox Motors, which saw Jacob Hinckley record the shutout and 5 different skaters find the back of the net. Saturday was a tail of two tapes with CPH playing great, and then not so great. Both performances unfortunately resulted in losses, sending CPH to the T2 division where they would face off against the EDP Spiders for the championship. Just across the parking lot from ‘Touchdown Jesus’ on a crisp sunny Sunday afternoon, only moments after the church bells rang across campus…CPH took to the ice and took care of business! Colton Lorusso had a breakout game, netting the first 3 goals for CPH for his first career hat trick, while Cooper Williams and the D-core shut down the spiders en route to a 5-3 championship victory. From the college hockey games to the campus tours, from the wins to the losses, and everything in-between, the memories made in South Bend, Indiana last weekend will last a lifetime.

15UAAA

The 15UAAA team traveled to play 3 games in Raleigh against the very talented Jr. Canes Black team.  CPH would have to be extremely resilient and play to the final buzzer in all 3 contests.  CPH went 2-0-1 on the weekend.

With an early game on Saturday, which also happened to be Veterans Day, the CPH team got a very unique experience from one of their long-time families. Dan McAuliffe, a Veteran who served 11 years, is now a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) with the National Guard. He  gave the players and families a tour of the National Guard facility in Raleigh where they saw different types of military aircraft. The players and families were given the ability to sit inside these aircraft while being educated on what they all do.

Thoughts from Coach Schwab on the weekend:

“The Jr. Canes Black team gave us 3 very good games over the weekend. They are a very good team. We had to find some urgency late in games to get the result we wanted. Extremely proud of how our team played till the final buzzer in all 3 contests.”

“Can’t Thank Dan enough for giving our players and families a tour! What a great experience to learn more about what our Military and National Guard do. It was a very Cool experience”

14UAA

CPH performed well over the weekend finishing 2-2. The team learned a lot, during two close games that ended in losses, against the EDP Spiders and the Windsor Spitfires. The two victories came against the Aurora Beast. During their off time the team, and families, enjoyed a Notre Dame vs Ohio State Hockey game and toured the facilities on campus.

14UA

CPH 14UA battled through some adversity at their tournament in Hampton Roads, VA this past weekend with mixed results. Illness hit the team on Friday, forcing CPH to face the St. James team in game 1 with only 10 skaters. The score was tied 0-0 early in the 3rd period when an injury knocked the team down to 9 skaters for the rest of the game. The kids rallied for 2 goals in the 3rd to go on to a 2-0 win. Game 2 on Saturday morning was a back and forth affair that ended in a 4-4 tie with the Carolina Thunder. On Saturday evening, the Capitals Academy Rooftop Selects handed CPH a devastating 3-2 loss and eliminated any chance of CPH making it to the championship game. CPH ended on a high note by shutting out St. James for a second time in the tournament to win the consolation game 3-0. 14UA has 2 conference games this weekend against Roanoke before heading into the Thanksgiving break.”
