CPH Playing Hockey Outside: Read more on the impact

Hear from program director Jeff Holdenrid on what the outdoor rink and outdoor games mean for Carolina Premier Hockey.

“Outdoor arenas are nothing new for the hockey community. Throughout Canada and the northern states of the US there are alot of opportunities for the professionals, adults, and youth to play hockey outdoors. Last year moving south we saw a huge success with the outdoor games in Raleigh NC for the NHL, College, and youth teams.

North Carolina, hockey in the south .. let that sink in for a minute.

Last year was a first for Charlotte NC; the Charlotte Knights Baseball and Truist Field turned their beautiful stadium into a winter wonderland! This included a full size hockey rink. Families poured into the city for their kids to enjoy an opportunity to skate outdoors, under the lights, in a professional stadium, sporting massive smiles.

Watching the Winter Classic (as well as other outdoor games), our kids dream big. They want to experience that for themselves! The feel of the ice, the outdoor air, crowds cheering in the stands. But, more than likely, they are simply thinking about putting on that black eye paint and getting ready for battle. Kids.

Since this ice has come to Charlotte it has always been a priority of Carolina Premier Hockey to make the dreams come true for our players and families. We did a great job of this last year, and are working hard at it again this year. We are proud to announce that every CPH team has a game scheduled on the outdoor ice for the 2023-24 season. Rain or shine, 70 degrees or 30, we will be there! CPH family adventures making dreams come true, from 8U-16U. This will also include our big brothers, the Charlotte Rush Junior hockey teams. Show up for a game, support your brothers and sisters – hockey outdoors is here. Let the games begin!

We want to invite and welcome everyone to come out and join us cheering on your local youth hockey players. Be a part of our dream come true!”
