After a game against Bentley didn’t go the way anyone wanted, Associate Head Coach Zach McKelvie had some good thoughts on a much better effort in a 3-3 tie against Sacred Heart. The Black Knights went on the road and battled through injury, and against a really strong Pioneers team to take a point on the road as this young team wants to move up in the Atlantic Hockey Standings. This team banked a point with a Ricky Lyle Jr. extra attacker goal with under 30 seconds left. Here’s McKelvie on the compete level.
“We really liked how we competed after the first. Thought we did a lot of good things and made some plays to scratch and claw to get the the tie and point. We obviously disappointed we didn’t win, that’s why we play but we did do some nice things.”
Zach talked about Army’s goaltending afterwords and was hopefully for the future after Evan Szary left early due to injury.
“Evan is doing fine and will be ok just battling some issues right now that we don’t think will keep him out. Gav came in and really played well, which is tough to do in those situations.”
He praised Lyle’s leadership as well as Army”/ leaders for the year and on the extra-attacker goal.
“Ricky leads with a lot of passion. Always ready to compete and push his teammates. He, Mikey and Joey are doing a good job leading. On his goal all 6 guys on the ice were just relentless and determined to score.”
He added more on Abric’s compete levels tonight.
“Gav definitely showed most grit. It’s really tough to come in a tight game against a talented team. He dug in and made some nice saves. I know Evan wished he could have finished but that’s how it goes sometimes.”
