Following this AIC Football team in year two of Dan Chipka’s time as Head Coach, something feels different. For a team that had its best season in a decade they know they still have a lot to work on this year.
Today they take on Central Conneticut State on the road in a matchup where we will see a lot of new faces in the 146 man roster looking to make their first mark on the season. One place that has big shoes to fill is the running back room. One cannot replace Sidki Kone, but a room of men with his work ethic and consistent ethos can work to build on his legacy.
Bo Catherwood is a transfer from Hudson Valley Community College in New York. He is a back that can run like Kone and is not afraid of contact.
Catherwood runs quickly and his tempo in this offense where anything is possible is a scheme fit. He also talks about Yaseen Murdeen ( Yaya) who has earned a chance in his fourth year with the program, as well as the offense’s growth.
“As an offense we’ve been working our tails off in the weight room, as well as the film room ahead of CCSU. On the field we are getting valuable reps and teaching points while improving our craft as a unit. Each snap sharpens our play knowledge and builds chemistry between one another. YaYa knows the offense better than any back in the room. He’s been here and has learned the ropes from Sadiki the past few years and he’s ready to take a crack at the NE10. I think we’re two of the most explosive backs in Division 2 football and both have of us the ability to produce for our team when our numbers called. This opportunity gives some of the young guns a taste of what it’s like to play at the next level, and for some of the experienced guys it’s a reminder of what it takes to be there. The odds are obviously stacked against us so it’s a great chance to rise to the occasion and I wouldn’t want to do that with any other group of guys.”
