For a team that had to be perfect with its final home games to earn a trip on the road against the East Division Regular Season Champs, the Northeast Generals did not look out of place. They stormed to a series opening win by a 4-1 margin with 52 saves from Cullen DeYoung before the Titans earned a split with a 6-2 win on Saturday.
The Generals now have home ice advantage as they need two more wins to move to the next round. This feat can be accomplished by winning their next two games on Friday and Saturday. Should a game five be needed it will happen on Sunday, one week from today.
Head Coach Bryan Erikson had some thoughts on the first two games.
He said “Obviously not the result we wanted last night but we are happy coming back to Attleboro with home ice advantage. On Friday I thought we did a good job setting the tone physically which led to some very timely scoring. Last night I thought we got away from what had given us success against NJ this season. But overall I am very happy with the situation we are in.”
On the growth of DeYoung he added “His focus is just amazing as is his work ethic. He never quits on pucks and has a knack for a huge save. He’s playing with a ton of confidence and we in return have a ton in him.”
