This week, the NAHL team had a tough game against Maine, while the NA3HL team again won all of their games.
NAHL
Head Coach Bryan Erikson said “ Frustrating. I thought we made a few mistakes we don’t usually and didn’t capitalize on the chances we usually cash in on. But it’s just one game and we will refocus this week and get ready for next Monday. This division is a dog fight night in and night out and we can’t take any shifts off. But we will be back working hard this week and prepare for another round with Maine.
NA3HL
Head Coach Daryl Locke said “Wednesday’s game I thought we came out strong and used our legs on the forecheck. When we do that we’re able to put the opposing team on their heels. I thought Matt Nuzzolilo had another excellent game. He continues to show why he’ll be moving to the next level next season. Matt along with his line mates Braeden Kennedy and Nolan Murphy are clicking on all cylinders. Good news for us bad news for opposing teams. Nathan Gilleshammer, who we traded for from Mason City, scored his first Generals goal. Happy for him he got his first out of the way. D’Mar McCoy had a good game getting the shutout. A solid win all around for the boys. Saturday’s game went exactly how we planned it as far as our game plan was concerned. On the road,in Long Island, we wanted to start fast and push the pace on them. They’re a big team so we wanted to get pucks behind their defense and let the forwards get to work. The boys were able to do that as we put two goals on the board in the first period. Nathan Gilleshammer got us going and Tyler Ramm followed that up a few minutes later to give us a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. Tyler Ramm with a goal and assist in the first period was dominating with his size and reach. Cody Lambert had an excellent game on defense for us. We have numerous injuries on the back end and I asked Cody to fill a role for us. He didn’t hesitate to help his teammates ,which says a lot about his character. He’s been our unsung hero this season no doubt. Mason Joseph had another solid game in net helping us get the two points on the road.Today’s game was bit of a let down as far as urgency and intensity. I think we left our legs back at the hotel. Long Beach came out fast and had us scrambling to keep up.They out shot us and went up 1-0 to end the first period. Luke Fundator kept us in the game as he made four or five saves that were grade A chances. We were able to regroup to start the 2nd period and got back to work. Nolan Murphy with a nice tip from a Cody Lambert point shot. Long Beach followed with a goal then Braeden Kennedy tied it again with a snipe. After a scoreless third period we went to overtime. I knew we had a good chance to win with our speed in the open ice. Payton Felix and Matt Nuzzolilo in open ice are dynamic. Those two, along with Eddie Mulligan on the back end, make it tough on opposing teams if you don’t blanket them. They skate and move the puck so fast that it’s almost impossible to stop. It didn’t take long as Payton Felix caught a pass on the regroup and just blew by his man in the neutral zone. He cut in on his off wing and buried it. A great guy check win as the boys were battling back all game. It wasn’t pretty but anytime you can sweep your opponent on the road you’ll take it.”
